Effect of Alpha-glucosidase Inhibitors in Paients with NIDDM

Abstract
It is well known that alpha-glucosidase inhibitor reduces the postprandial blood glucose level. This study is to clarify the fact that acarbose is the effective way to control the blood sugar in diabetic patients.
@ES Method and material:
@EN Acarbose 150mg/day for first 2weeks followed 300mg/day for next 16weeks were given to 31patients with NIDDM.
@ES Results:
@EN A significant reduction of fasting and post prandial blood glucose and FFA were observed. But serum C-peptide, lipid profiles, and blood pressure were not decreased.
@ES Conclusion:
@EN Acarbose is effective to stabilize the blood sugar level in the patients with NIDDM. This seems to be the efficient complimentary drug in the patients whose blood sugar level is not well controlled.
